Sinking your eyes and mind into a book at the beach is a pleasure many of us look forward to on vacation. Having your toes in the water with the breeze run through your hair seems to make books that much harder to put down. Visit Sundog Books in the heart of Seaside to pick up one of these 2017 newly released books.

1. Little Deaths by Emma Flint

A fictional story, set in 1965, Ruth Malone, a cocktail waitress in a tight-knit working class neighborhood in Queens, wakes up one day with both of her children missing. Cindy’s body was found strangled half a mile from their home, and 10 days later, Frankie Jr.’s decomposed body was found. Who other than Ruth is to blame?

2. The Futures by Anna Pitoniak

After a young couple moves to New York City, they find themselves achieving more good than the bad they expected. This fictional book is full of love, betrayal and redemption.

3. We Were The Lucky Ones by Georgia Hunter

Three generations of the Kurc Family are trying to stay sane and keep normalcy in their lives as World War 2 lives right around the corner. Through the tough times the Kurc family dealt with in 1939, they found ways to cope during hardships and they became survivors throughout this nonfictional book.

4. The Fall of Lisa Bellow by Susan Perabo

Lisa Bellow, one of the most popular girls in her 8th grade class was abducted in a sandwich shop in broad daylight. As the family struggles to find their daughter, this dark, yet beautiful fictional story shows healing and comfort.

5. Nevertheless by Alec Baldwin

One of the most accomplished actors today, Alec Baldwin reveals a never before seen side of his life. Winning a number of Golden Globes, Emmys, and Screen Actor Guild Awards, Baldwin shares his childhood, television fame and where he is now.

6. A Separation by Katie Kitamura

In this fictional story, a woman and her faithless husband agree to separate, she begins to understand that the man she is married to, isn’t who she thought he was. His disappearance in the rugged south of Greece gives her false hope for who she used to love.

7. The Impossible Fortress by Jason

8. Lincoln In The Bardo by George Saunders

President Abraham Lincoln, dealing with grief, visits his 11 year old son, Willie Lincoln’s body at the cemetery where he laid to rest. Author George Saunders filled this novel with not just grief and death, but grace, humor and the powers of good and evil.

9. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Not many 16 year olds witness fatal shootings of their childhood best friend. In this fictional story, Starr Carter is the only person alive who can answer the one question that has circulated through everyone's mind; “What really happened to Khalil, an unarmed boy who was shot dead by an officer.”
